Director of Purchasing

Summary of Position:

The Director of Purchasing coordinates and manages all purchasing and supply functions to insure the success and profitability of the resort.  Establishes and manages all systems for procurement including e-procurement, bid solicitation, price auditing, sourcing, inventory control, and standard purchase specifications and contract negotiations.  The Director also coordinates with the Business Center operations to ensure the cross-training and cross-utilization of all shipping and receiving personnel, as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Purchasing food, beverage, general merchandise and equipment from approved purveyors.  Directing and implementing policy for the resort purchasing department.
  • Establish along with resort personnel Standard Purchase Specifications in accordance with Rooms, Food and Beverage and supporting departments within the resort to ensure guests and staff are provided with the proper goods and services.
  • Maintaining current pricing information on suppliers and their competitors, researching/bidding of new and better products for use in the resort.
  • Issuing and distributing purchase orders, reviewing and processing purchase requests in accordance with company policy and procedure.
  • Perform general/routine inspection of storerooms, walk-ins, and other areas of the resort for cleanliness and the proper rotation of products.
  • Assessing and reviewing the job performance of subordinates and maintaining personnel records of assigned team members as described in resort policy manual.
  • Establish and maintain receiving specifications and standards within the resort to ensure the proper delivery and handling of product in accordance with state, local or any other governmental agencies requirements.
  • Comply with the Arizona Grand Resort HEARTfelt culture (Vision, Values & Standards) of conduct as set forth in the resort communications.
  • Any other tasks as assigned by Director of Finance, General Manager, Managing Director or Vice President of Finance.


Education: Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required skills and abilities.  High School diploma required with certification in supply management or purchasing preferred.

Experience: Prior experience as Director of Purchasing in large volume resort or hotel operation, preferably a minimum of five years overall at the director level.

Certificates or Licenses: Maricopa County Food Service Worker card and Arizona Title IV alcohol certification. CPR certification is preferred.

Language: Additional language ability is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to utilize various software programs including excel and word.
  • Ability to effectively read, write and understand the English Language.
  • Ability to lift up to 200 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull carts or hand trucks with a maxim weight of 300 lbs.
  • Transport items through crowded and slippery kitchens.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.
