Director of Human Resources

Summary of Position:

A highly experienced, well rounded, hospitality driven, empathetic, and culture champion Human Resources leader who is committed to enhancing our strong foundation of Vision, Values, Standards and Success for The Scott Resort & Spa, on behalf of Classic Hotels & Resorts.  This role reports directly to the General Manager with a "dotted line" to the VP of Organizational Development for Classic Hotels & Resorts.

Essential Functions:

Facilitate, mentor, build on, plan, develop and coordinate the Human Resource support function and initiatives at the resort to engage and inspire associates and leaders in accordance with the operational needs/policies/ procedures and all applicable laws and regulations, while limiting liabilities and promoting a safe, fair, positive work environment.

Short and long term planning and the daily operations of the Human Resources department.  Assists in the creation and makes recommendations in regard to Human Resources/Recruitment/Workplace/Training/Recognition and other objectives.  Participates in total BE Leadership as a member of the resort’s Leadership Committee.

Coach and counsel, drive and conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve associate issues, concerns and problems, and nurture and provide open communication, progressive discipline and conduct separations as appropriate.

Implement, audit and manage the hourly wage and benefit programs and administer the management salary program within the corporate policies and procedures.

Ensure proper maintenance of associate records, files and human resource office systems. 

Manage the compilation and analyze various reports to provide management with accurate information.

Oversee all employee relations matters as they relate to federal, state and local employment and civil rights laws.

Partner with and mentor with the Human Resources Manager to create a cohesive and strong people and culture team.

Qualifications:

Must have a minimum of 7+ in a fast paced, service centric HR/People environment; leadership experience is required and hospitality experience highly preferred.  Must be extremely computer savvy and knowledgeable in various HRIS and payroll platforms.Bi-lingual spanish speaking skills are a plus!

Education:

Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree a plus

Requirements:

SPHR or SHRM-CP certification strongly preferred but not required

Experience:   

Minimum 7 years HR Leadership experience; prior hotel experience highly preferred.

Certificates or Licenses:  HR related courses/classes/certifications preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of government labor regulations.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits processing from enrollment, orientation, billing and auditing of plans and invoices
  • Computer literate/skilled in Microsoft Office/Excel/PP
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to champion the HEART culture and BE Leadership of the resort and the company
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and cost controls
  • Compute accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Fluency in English both verbally and non-verbally; Spanish speaking highly preferred
  • Perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy under pressure of tense/confrontational situations.
  • Enforce resort's standards, policies and procedures with all associates.
  • Prioritize and organize.
  • Be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment.
  • Follow directions thoroughly.
  • Understand the role of leadership, workplace excellence and guest’s service needs; with the ability and passion to speak to and train as needed to these topics and more.
  • Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
  • Work without direct supervision/demonstrate initiative
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.
  • Lead, support and supervise Human Resources staff
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the Human Resources budget.
  • Maintain thorough and current knowledge of all Human Resources/employee regulations and laws, and ensure that the property is in compliance.
  • With the advice and support of the VP of OD, participate in EEO, Unemployment, Wage & Hour, Worker's Compensation, OSHA, ADA, Immigration and Naturalization Service hearings. Implement policies and programs to guarantee compliance.
  • Instruct staff in interpretation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure staffs compliance with HR policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and monitor recruitment, screening and reference checking of all non-exempt personnel.
  • Recruit, interview and recommend all exempt associates.
  • Maintain and promote employee benefits programs.
  • Maintain all wage and salary programs, including performance evaluations.
  • Recommend and/or approve all employee transitions, i.e. new hire, transfer, promotion, etc.
  • Maintain open door policy.
  • Monitor and analyze turnover statistics.
  • Conduct and support training classes and company training initiatives
  • Update and submit required reports in a timely manner.
  • Participate in and monitor safety committee in compliance with Loss Prevention SOP's.
  • Ensure compliance with all HR related Loss Prevention SOP's.
  • Practice positive employee relations, including coaching, counseling & discipline.
  • Participate in and monitor orientation/on-boarding programs.
  • Ensure managers are using coaching, counseling and discipline to address issues/concerns.
  • Knowledge of legal compliance that pertains to Employee Benefit Administration, such as 401(K), Union Pension Fund, Healthcare Plan Management, etc.
  • Ensure managers are competent in assessing and evaluating hourly staff
